Reds meadows resort is an awesome place to stop for through hikers! Me and my mom were on the JMT and stopped here because my mom got a knee injury. The road to mammoth was closed but the owner of reds meadows was kind enough to give us a ride out. To say their customer service is amazing is an understatement. Their food is also delicious and very good after a full day of hiking. The facilities including the showers, bathrooms and laundry are very well maintained and clean. When showering they offer a towel and soap for rental at $3, and a shower is $5, $1 per additional minute. We couldnt be more grateful for the employees and owners kindness. Happy Hiking!

This review is for the pack station. I had an amazing 2 hr trail ride to Rainbow Falls on a Saturday morning. Booked last minute the day before on the website and everything went smoothly. I was a little nervous given that this was my first time riding a horse, but Sarah, my absolutely fantastic guide, immediately put me at ease and helped me get accustomed to being in the saddle, especially when my horse was a little reluctant to leave the pack station at first. Once we got going on the trail, the ride was so much fun with awesome views, that super cool feeling that comes with trotting thru nature on horseback, and Sarah’s many interesting geology (and horse) facts. Had about half an hour to explore Rainbow Falls before heading back. Can’t say enough good things about Sarah and of course my noble steed Stella. A must-do if you’re planning a trip to Devil’s Postpile! (And if you have a reservation with the pack station, you can just drive into Reds Meadow and don’t have to take the bus!)

Wow! Our Red's Meadow horse ride was absolutely one of the most incredible experiences we have ever had, and one of the best things we have ever done while staying in Mammoth. Allison was our guide, and even though most of our group had not been on a horse before, she was kind and patient and provided us with full assurance. We had a beautiful, peaceful ride to Rainbow Falls, with Allison leading the way with encouragement for us all. I can not say enough about these beautiful horses that took us on our journey. Sweet, even more patient, experienced, and so intelligent. There was absolutely nothing to worry about or think about, because these horses know exactly what they are doing and would put even the most nervous rider at immediate ease. We were able to put our full confidence into Allison and our amazing horses, and that is more than what we could have asked for — beyond the absolutely picturesque trail path and gorgeous weather. We are so excited to do this again and we recommend it to everyone who is looking to experience a little piece of Heaven. XXX

Red's Meadow is a remote location in the Eastern Sierra Mountains and a great place to see nature. I'm from Minnesota. The sky is more blue and visibility is far greater than the upper Midwest. The nights quiet and peaceful. There are no crickets, or frogs chirping at night, and the sky is full of stars. I stayed in a cabin which was very comfortable, with a full bathroom and kitchen. It reminds me staying in cabin's along Minnesota's north shore of Lake Superior. The terrain is rugged and hiking on the first day will take you a while to get used the the altitude. It's around 7500 feet at Red's. While I was there I hiked to the Devil's Postpile from the park's ranger station, took a trail ride from Red's to Minaret Falls and Rainbow Falls. Day 3 was an easy hike around Sotcher Lake. There's a waterfall on the east side of the lake. If you're hiking the Pacific Crest or John Muir trails ship your resupply there, enjoy the restaurant, showers, a beverage, some ice cream or a night in a bed in a hiker's cabin. Check the reservation system often for availability. IT does change frequently and that's how I was able to get my reservation. If you want to unplug from the grid, pack ALL of your camping gear and have mule packer haul you in and out of the wilderness. Getting there is a little inconvenient due to road construction this year (2025). If you have reservations to stay or a pack trip you can drive yourself to the resort. Would I go there again? Absolutely. It's an oasis in the wilderness. The Mountains are calling me and I must Go!

I stumbled into Red's on my third day of the JMT and enjoyed the Gatorade and food immensely. The bus to get to the campground is easy to figure out, the people are helpful, and the showers and laundry made me feel like a human being again. The only thing that wasn't amazing was the hiker box - significantly smaller than VVR's or MTR's. But if you trade with the hikers around you, you'll do just fine. And there's plenty of supplies to be had in the general store, they're just more expensive than the free 99 rations in the box.

Can’t really beat .25 miles off the trail for a hot meal and general store. Prices are high, but well worth it. Breakfast burrito was great, and plenty of free coffee refills. I think $5 for a hot shower is worth it, finally felt clean after 170 miles on trail.

This place has the best food if you're just coming off trail. Their burger is huge and their milkshake was awesome.

My wife, 15 month old son, and I spent 3 nights at Red's Meadow in July 2023 and had an incredible experience. If you're looking for a home base for hiking, running, and playing outside in the Sierra's backcountry then look no further. The cabins are rustic and bare bones, but still very comfortable -- the mattress on our bed (Cabin F) was surprisingly good and the kitchens are well supplied. We cooked most of our meals on the bonfire // grill outside and it was a treat to sit fireside at night and see the stars. The staff are all super kind, responsive, knowledgeable of the area, and it's clear that they play outside themselves and value public lands. Several other reviews complained about price gouging but we found everything reasonably priced. $6 for a cold 24oz craft beer in the middle of a national forest is a great deal in my opinion :). It's probably a different experience during peak season -- so we were really grateful to be staying at Red's Meadow during the first week that they opened for the season. Only note is that I wish we would have brought a grill brush. Thank you Claudia, Patti, Joe and the rest of the staff for a great stay!
